Restoration of a Regency period corner cabinet veneered in Rio rosewood on a softwood frame. The piece had little damage apart from missing fluting and mahogany grafts on the top and bottom rails. The work therefore consisted of replacing the mahogany grafts with rosewood veneer that was sawn, scraped, and sanded before being glued with hot glue. Restoration of a Louis XV corner cabinet in marquetry of various woods (maple, hornbeam, boxwood, and holly). Except for the green leaves, the colors of some flowers and ribbons have faded. This marquetry is executed on a rosewood background framed by a boxwood stringing and a rosewood frieze. The frame of this corner cabinet is made of solid oak assembled with dovetail joints. A classic restoration of Boulle marquetry. This involved rehydrating the old glue through infiltration, crafting and gluing the missing brass pieces, and reconstructing the base, which was in poor condition but not beyond repair. The bronze mounts were cleaned and finished with a clear French polish. Proof that appearances can be deceiving. Even a piece of furniture in a severely deteriorated state can regain its former beauty.
