A conservator's objective is to safeguard tangible cultural heritage and guarantee its accessibility to present and future generations. To respect the integrity and authenticity of a heritage object and ensure its preservation, general principles must be applied, such as reversibility. The materials used must be perfectly stable and compatible with the original work.
As a cabinetmaker and restorer, my task is to make furniture usable by reinforcing joints, reattaching veneers or marquetry using various techniques, such as... vacuum bonding or by infiltration, and by reconstructing the missing parts to restore the legibility of the piece of furniture. I work in conjunction with upholsterers, bronze workers, locksmiths, engravers, marble workers, sculptors, etc… The finishes are done in a traditional manner (French polish, wax, polite, (spray varnish, etc.) depending on the style and period of the furniture. I also practice’anoxia, which is a curative and non-harmful technique to eliminate wood-boring insects.
For chair making, I work and restore the wood to ensure its sturdiness; I carve and reinforce the frames or shafts of chairs and furniture components. All this is done while respecting the physical integrity of the chair and guaranteeing complete reversibility.
