Louis XVI style desk stamped KRIEGER

Exquisitely crafted with its mahogany-veneered oak frame and solid mahogany legs, this desk is a perfect example of high-quality 19th-century furniture. The cabinetmaking is flawless, and the bronze mounts are in pristine condition. Everything is there; nothing is missing.

The Krieger firm began its cabinetmaking business in the mid-19th century with Antoine Krieger (1804-1869) before adding a significant decorative department that ensured the prestige of its business until around 1945. Krieger executed all plans and designs in both antique and modern styles. A thousand workers labored in the workshops at 74-76 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine in Paris, producing both luxury and more everyday furniture. The very high quality of the craftsmanship guaranteed interiors in carefully selected oak or mahogany, decorated with fine wood veneers. Krieger was awarded a second-class medal at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851 and also exhibited its work at numerous international exhibitions, such as the one in Paris in 1855.

After stripping the tabletop and removing any stains, the desk was re-varnished with a clear French polish. The bronze mounts were simply cleaned with soap and warm water.
