Restoration of a curious chest of drawers Directory Crafted from solid walnut and walnut veneer, mahogany, and maple, with marquetry depicting a Medici vase and a Louis XIV-inspired ballet dancer, in brass on an ebony ground. The drawers feature a walnut base with an ebony stringing surmounted by a quarter-round brass and wood molding, surrounded by a mahogany molding. The uprights are three-quarters fluted columns terminating in toupie feet. The locks are in the shape of trefoils.
Conservation work was carried out on this chest of drawers. The joints and broken leg were re-glued. Cracks and gaps were filled. The wood and brass moldings and detached veneer were re-glued. The brass fluting was re-glued. The brass was deoxidized and the varnish was reapplied.
