And there it is, finished and ready to use. All the tools are in their proper place. All that remains is to find bronze fittings for the handles and keyholes.

For the finishing technique, I used the same method as that applied to furniture of that period: polishing. I first scraped the surface, then sanded it with 150-grit sandpaper. Next, I applied Venetian tripoli mixed with olive oil using a beveled piece of wood and sanded it with horsetail, a plant with a high fiber content. Once these steps were completed, I applied a little pure beeswax, working it in with a bundle of rushes.

A finish that needs a revival, requiring a lot of elbow grease but is 100% natural and uses no harmful products. The result is not too flashy, rather silky and very pleasing to the eye.
