As is often the case with secretaries, one of the main areas of damage was the hinges of the drop-front, which had cracked and damaged the frame and veneer. The work involved restoring the solid wood section that provides support and proper alignment before replacing the missing amaranth veneer. The cracks in the drop-front, visible on the front, were patched on the back under the leather. After stripping, the piece received a waxed, filled finish.
