Very fashionable at the end of the 18th century, the cabaret table, or cabaret table, is characterized by a raised, basin-shaped top. Its slightly concave shape with a raised rim all around allows it to safely hold various drinks such as teas, chocolates, and other beverages.
This model, similar to those of the cabinetmaker Canabas, is a solid mahogany from Saint Domingue with a metal reinforcement under the feet.
The biggest problem was with the base; it was loose and unstable. The main restoration work therefore consisted of removing the screws, which had been added during a previous restoration, in order to reconstruct the joints and reattach everything with fish glue. The metal reinforcement, which was probably original, was then reinstalled.
The pedestal table was then stripped and French polished with a colorless varnish to reveal the natural beauty of the wood.
