The restoration of this piece of furniture is a classic case. The door was warped and almost all the brass trim was missing. Its main advantage was that the marquetry on the door was fairly well preserved, apart from a small loss of brass and a few pieces of dyed horn. Nothing too serious.

So I started by dismantling the bronzes, then I re-made and glued all the missing threads, re-gluing in the process those that were still present.
Next, I tackled the door. After removing the amaranth veneer on the backing, it was straightened and then the veneer was re-applied.
The missing marquetry was reproduced, then the entire marquetry was re-glued by infiltration of glue.
Cleaning, tinting, colorless French polishing and refitting of the bronzes.

Hello, thank you. To straighten the door, I removed the veneer from the backing. Then, I tried a thermal shock treatment, which wasn't entirely successful. So, I made several cuts in the panels, about two-thirds of the way through, using a circular saw. I then filled the holes with V-shaped pieces of poplar, which I glued back in place with fish glue. That's basically the process.
