Restoration of a 1930s side table and game table in Macassar ebony and maple veneer.
A few veneer grafts and the refinishing with French polish were enough to restore the shine to this very beautiful set.
Did you know: L'’Macassar ebony (Dyospyros celebica) is a tree endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia; Macassar ebony is also called golden ebony or Coromandel wood. It is also found in Malaysia where it is known as Kajol marte. It belongs to the Ebenaceae family.
It takes its name from the island's main seaport, Makassar, from where the logs were exported.
It is a dioecious tree that can reach 25 m in height. The maximum trunk diameter is approximately 1.20 m. This species is generally not found in forests but rather as an individual tree or in groups of 2 to 3 trees.
This magnificent species reached its peak during the Art Deco period..
