For a change of pace this week, a bit of what's called "rustic" furniture. It's a nice change from veneer, and to be honest, it's not unpleasant. I'm even quite happy to have this kind of furniture to restore because, unfortunately, many pieces of this type, which no longer have any market value, end up in the landfill or are simply burned.
Moreover, these pieces of furniture don't require an enormous amount of work. For this two-part Louis Philippe sideboard, the restoration consisted of replacing the chestnut planks of the top with cherry planks to restore uniformity to the surface, as the upper part of the sideboard was missing. A few small repairs here and there were also necessary repairs. A new keyhole escutcheon had to be found, and above all, a thorough cleaning and stripping was required. Finally, a coat of colorless wax was applied, and the piece was complete. This sideboard can now return to its owner and be passed on to a new generation.
